11 Ways To Feel Better When You're Anxious or Stressed

Nov 19, 2020

Anxiety and stress don't just take a toll on us mentally. They also increase our risk for other health problems like migraines, high blood pressure, loss of libido, upset stomach, panic attacks, general fatigue, and even body aches.

As this pandemic goes on, so many friends have come to me feeling sad, frustrated, and just not themselves. I totally get it. I have major off days too. As you hopefully know, I am all about helping you feel, live, and be your best, healthiest and happiest self so here are 11 things you can do to ditch negative thoughts, feel more at peace and find more joy!

1. Get outside/ go for a walk. Enjoy the outdoors and fresh air. Notice the leave and flowers. Take in those moments and feel yourself unwind. Studies show walking is great for stress and as effective as meditating.

2. Meditate. This will bring peace, lower your blood pressure, get rid of tension, improve your sleep, and even help you be more present. If you've never tried it, just do it.

3. Listen to music. Good tunes have the power to relax you and revive you after a crazy stressful day.

4. Laugh. It will help you relax, relieve tension, and let go of stress. Watch a funny movie or spend time with people that make you laugh.

5. Say no. Let go of the things and people that cause you to feel negative. Pass on invitations that don't serve you, overwhelm you, that don't get you excited, or move you toward your goals. You're in charge of your energy and time. Be selective.

6. Take supplements. Rather than getting anxious about getting sick- take action and do what you can to be your healthiest self. I have been taking Vitamin D3, C, Zinc, and Elderberry daily for over a year. Other supplements like valerian, kava-kava, green tea, and lemon balm help relieve stress.

7. Exercise daily. As a former fitness instructor, I cannot stress this enough. Exercise reduces stress, boosts our mood, and reduces insomnia. Whether it's yoga, running, Crossfit, dancing, boxing, tennis, etc- do what makes your body feel good. When we do what we enjoy we will be more likely to stick with it and make it a lifestyle.

8. Light your favorite candle/ use essential oils. These are two of my daily rituals. It just calms me so much and it makes our house smell so good. Set a calming mood in your home and feel your energy shift.

9. Switch coffee for decaf tea. Did you know that too much caffeine can actually increase your anxiety and stress? Yikes right? Drink it in moderation and switch it to decaf especially after 12pm so it doesn't mess with your sleep. Let me tell you. I am a huge coffee lover and this was hard for me but once I did it I noticed a huge difference, both mentally and physically!

10. Do something fun with friends and/or family. Maybe play a board game, bake together, just sit around and catch up, or do a fun craft. This quality time does so much for the mood and soul

11. Stop watching the news. I haven't watched any news on the TV for two weeks now and it's been a GAME CHANGER! It was freaking me out and making me crazy I tell ya. My mom and brother send me things I need to know but if your TV is on blasting nothing but doom and gloom your mood will be affected. Protect your energy, my friend.
